1. Selecting an Item
This is where you can see all Items that are currently in your Workbench (read more about how to add to the Workbench here). They look like this:
You can delete Lots like the one on top and you can select an item to work on next. If you do that it changes the view showing the selecting Item on the left.
2. Check the Price Point
All items that came from an auction house or an eBay listing will only have one Price Point assigned. Please carefully check the condition of the item by clicking on the link and inspecting the original listing. Then make changes as appropriate by clicking on one of the two Pen icons:
You can change the condition of the item, the condition of the packaging or mark it as not having packaging. When we have them we also show Fake Images:
Please study those Member curated Fake Images carefully. If you feel that the Price Point is for an item that is not genuine you can edit the condition of the item by ticking the "Considered Fake" box, and leave a note. If you made a borderline decision we suggest to also add a note to explain your decision.
NOTE: If the database item says the item has no packaging (say it is a Decoy that was produced without packaging) and the Price Point does have packaging information the value will be ignored.
3a. The item is already on hobbyDB
If you see the exact item on the right that means you can use the Quick Merge button:
It will delete the new entry and reassign Price Points, Collectibles, Wish List items and Ratings to the existing entry. If in doubt click on the links for the item in the workbench and/or the item that you think is the same in the match area. Quick Merge will ask you to confirm the action as it cannot be reversed.
3b. The item is not on hobbyDB yet
Then you have a bunch of easy options to help you add it! As with the usual process, you will see the options to:
- Edit and Publish (creating the item from scratch)
- Variant (an item that is similar to another, but collectors have no problem seeing the difference
- Subvariant (items are similar enough that you have to look close to see the difference).
- Clone (you want to capture certain attributes of an item, but not tie it to another)
You can have the following information and features:
- Using the magnifying glass can look at a bigger version of the Main Image (if we have one)
- Shows the Status and Creator (which could just be an automatic data feed)
- The Next Item allows you to load the next item once you have saved this one
- You have the ability to decide not to work on an item (Release) or to remove it from the database (Delete), mostly if the item is a lot
Further below you can change the Database Item Type if the default is not correct for this item:
If the automatic search has not produced the item you expected to see you can change the search terms and search again:
NOTE: eBay provides us only with a very small image that is not suitable for the database. Please add the full-size image from the eBay listing and delete the small version (very small images can be deleted) -
Your Stats & Manage your Queue
You can see your Stats and reset them to 0. You can also go back to Selection if you want to work on a different Item than the next in the queue. You can also release items in your Workbench (you should do that if you go away for a longer period of time or for if for other reasons you are not able to work on them for a while - you can always claim that back from Manage Database Items if they have not been worked on by another Member).
