Curators have the ability to create new categories for an item and sort collectible variants of that item by different criteria… different wording on the baseplate, different wheels, etc. Here is a tutorial on how this works:
The Hot Wheels Silhouette has many variants besides color. The baseplates are stamped with different countries, and there have been later re-castings for anniversary editions. The Group Variants function allows us to classify them by these factors. If you want to put some of these collectible variants into a group, visit the variant overview page, and click the “Group Variants” button like below:
You will then be redirected to the grouping wizard. If you want to Create a new grouping, such as “25th Anniversary”, click on the “Add Variant Group” button like below:
Next you’ll be prompted to enter a title and description for your group.
Once you have your groups, you can than drag an item from one group to another. Click the “Put Variants in Groups” button, and you will see a page like below. You can then drag the items from one area to another.
You can also change the order of the entire groups if, for example, you want to put one at the top of the list. To do that, hit the “Reorder Variant Groups ” button. You will then see a page like below. You can grab any box and move it up or down to get the right order.
The ideal variant overview page should end up looking like this –
